How to calculate the Area of Polygons

As I described before, the area is the surface of a shape. An example is the grass on a plot of land. You need to know how to calculate the area of several polygons (a polygon is a 2-D shape with three sides or more). The formula's to calculate the area of these polygons you have to know. Do not worry! When you look at the following videos during your maths revision you will understand the formula's so you do not have to remember anything.

You need to be able to calculate the area of the following polygons (or a combination of them when you are give a compounded figure) for they may appear on your IGCSE GCSE maths exam::

- Square - Rectangle - Triangle - Trapezium - Parallelogram

We will start with a very general introduction of what area is. This is a very important video however if you want to understand the rest too. So make sure to study it during your maths revision and let me know if you don't understand!

How to calculate Area of Compound Figures

Study the next videos during your maths revision in which I explain how to calculate the area of compound figures. The following videos will discuss the term 'mental scissors' and will show you how to approach these questions so you can pass your maths exam.

Make sure to check all videos during your revision time for in each video something new will be explained. You will understand best if you check all the maths activities!

The best way to learn maths is by solving example questions. So check this last maths video and discover whether you already understand how to calculate the area of compound figure or need more help with your maths.

How to calculate the Area of Triangles

If you understand the formula to calculate the area of a triangle, then you do not have to remember that formula. I will therefore explain to you the formula of how to calculate the area of a triangle to make sure you truly understand why it looks the way it does. And trust me, you will never forget again! By trying some example questions you will be able to confidently apply this formula too!

How to calculate the Area of Parallelograms

On your IGCSE GCSE Maths exam you can also be asked to calculate the area of a parallelogram. Study the next videos and example questions during your maths revision. Finally you also need to know how to calculate the area of a trapezium. First of all it is good to carefully think about what a trapezium is. A trapezium is a polygon with one pair of parallel sides.
