What are Significant Figures
It is crucial for you to have a solid understanding of what significant figures are. All your non-exact final answers on your IGCSE GCSE maths exam papers for instance, except when dealing with angles, you need to round to three significant figures. Unfortunately many students make mistakes or forget to round to 3 significant figures. So I demand from you as your teacher that you are not one of them!! Everybody who takes care of their work and takes pride out of it is able to round to 3 significant figures. What are significant figures? Let us start with to think about what the word significant means? If there is a stadium full with people, do I want tor read the exact number of supporters in the newspaper or would an approximate number be alright? If there are exactly 32,571 people inside, which number/place value of that amount is most important (significant)?
Have a look at the following maths videos which will explain what significant figures are. Then look at the maths activities and try to solve the example questions yourself. After studying the videos and you still don't understand significant figures, then let me know and I help you with your maths revision by making some more videos for you.
