What are Lines of, Planes of and Rotational Symmetry

In this chapter you will learn more about Symmetry. You will look at lines of symmetry and planes of symmetry. You will learn how many lines of symmetry a square has and how many lines of symmetry a rectangle has. You will also learn how many planes of symmetry a cube has. Finally I will explain to you what rotational symmetry is and what the order of rotational symmetry is. Study all the maths example questions during your maths revision and pass your IGCSE GCSE maths exam. What are Lines of Symmetry

What are Planes of Symmetry

When we look at 3 dimensional figures and their symmetry, then we talk about planes of symmetry. Learn in the next example maths video about planes of symmetry and understand how many planes of symmetry a cube has. Do you think a cuboid has the same amount of planes of symmetry as a cube? What is (the Order of) Rotational Symmetry

If you turn an object around one full turn (360 degrees), how many times will it look the same as in its original position? This is what you will be doing when you are answering questions about rotational symmetry on your IGCSE GCSE maths exam. The order of rotational symmetry is the amount of times the object looks the same. This includes the position of the object after a rotation of 360 degrees. Therefore everything has at least an order of rotational symmetry of order 1. Do you understand why? Ask me your question on the forum of this site if you don't and I will help you!

What is the relationship between Regular Polygons and their Lines and Order or Rotational Symmetry
