What are Locus and Loci
Imagine you design gardens and an important client wants you to make a sketch for a new garden. She only has a few minor requests. She want the fountain, placed in a circular pond of radius 3 meter, to be equidistant to the rhododendron and tulips. The old oak tree needs to be nearer to rose-bushes than the pergola and there needs to be a concrete path exactly 10 meters away from the lilies. Piece of cake for anybody who heard of loci before! In this section I will explain what Loci (singular Locus) are and how to construct them. Loci are all the points fitting a particular description. You have different types of Loci which you all need to be able to construct with a compass, protractor and rules if you want to pass your IGCSE GCSE maths exam. You need to be able to construct:
- The Loci of a point - The Loci of a line - The loci equidistant to two points - The loci equidistant to two intersecting lines So study the following example questions for your maths revision and understand what Loci are and how to accurately construct them! We will start with a general introduction in which I will explain what Loci are.
